New Building projects
We provide structural design services for new-build projects ranging from small single-storey outbuildings to large multi-storey developments on brown- and green-field sites, and across the Retail, Education, Commercial and Domestic sectors. We are normally appointed as part of the Client/Developer’s design team, but we work also with Contractors on Design & Build projects.
All structural design and drawing work is done in-house to maintain complete control of our design process.
Our structural design software comes to the fore particularly in the design of new buildings and can offer considerable economy and flexibility at the detailed design stage. Computer technology is a massively useful, but often cumbersome, tool and we do not allow it to over-ride our experience and judgement. Structural failures are rarely due to errors in detailed design calculations, but more often stem from poor conceptual design or a basic misunderstanding of structural behaviour. We take great care to get the initial scheme right, and we review computer-generated output with a healthy dose of scepticism and experience.
The result of our design is communicated essentially on our drawings. We often find that we draw in far greater detail than some of our contemporaries. This helps us to make sure that our design ‘works’, and Architects appreciate the high level of information that helps them co-ordinate their design with ours.
